Honorable Victoria M. Johnson
The Honorable Judge Victoria M. Johnson was elected to the Superior Court bench by the people of Dougherty County to succeed Judge Willie Lockette in 2024. Prior to her election, Judge Johnson served as a Magistrate Court Judge from 2018-2024 after she was appointed by Judge John Stephenson. Judge Victoria M. Johnson’s career is truly impressive and spans various sectors, showcasing her commitment to both law and community service. Judge Johnson has used her extensive legal experience, spanning roles such as a jurist, prosecutor, pro bono attorney, law clerk, project director and educator to serve her community. Prior to her becoming a Judge Court, Judge Johnson served the citizens of Dougherty County as the Project Manager for the Domestic Violence Unit and as an Assistant District Attorney in the Dougherty County District Attorney where she exhibited exceptional commitment to victims and to the community. Judge Johnson previously served as an Assistant State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit in Jacksonville, Florida. Judge Johnson is not unfamiliar with public service in that she was a public-school teacher prior to pursuing her law degree and continues in her love for teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Albany State University.
Her tenure as president of the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association and involvement in various community boards and organizations highlight her leadership and commitment to making a difference. Judge Johnson served two terms as president of the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association. Judge Johnson is a well-respected and highly regarded bar leader and community servant. She has served in several leadership capacities, both professionally and in her community, including the Board of Directors of the Liberty House Domestic Violence Shelter, the City of Albany/Dougherty County Ethics Board, and the Stop the Violence Taking Authority Board. She currently serves on the board of Leadership Albany, Rotary Club of Albany and was recently selected to serve on the Board of Easterseals. She was also the chair of the award-winning Local School Governance Team at International Studies Elementary School acknowledged for being the best in the state in 2021. She is also active with the Junior League of Albany.
It’s also commendable to see her active involvement in her church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, for over fifteen years, serving in multiple capacities within the church community. Judge Johnson serves actively as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deaconess and in the Music Ministry. Judge Johnson also sings with the Albany Civil Rights Museum Freedom Singers under the guidance of the renowned Rutha Mae Harris.
Recognized both for her commitment to her profession and the community, Judge Johnson has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Southwest Georgia 40 under 40 (2011), and was recognized for distinguished and devoted service award to the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association (2015-2016) and (2012-2014) which further solidifies her qualifications and commitment to her profession. Moreover, her accolades include being named Albany Herald’s Woman of the Year in Government (2021) and was a graduate of Leadership Albany’s Class of 2022.
Judge Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Florida and her Juris Doctor Degree from Florida A & M University. Judge Johnson is a member of the Georgia and Florida Bars. She resides in Albany with her husband Aaron who is a professor at Albany State University, and they are the proud parents of two daughters.
